A new 159,000-square-foot Meijer supercenter opened September 30 in Plymouth Township, Michigan, marking the Midwest retailer's 130th location in its home state. Sited at 48025 Five Mile Road near the Beck and Five Mile intersection, the store adds significant fresh-food and general merchandise capacity to the Southeast Michigan market.
Fresh Food at the Core
The Plymouth Township store leads with the grocery infrastructure that has defined Meijer's competitive positioning for decades: an expansive farm-fresh produce section, a full-service deli, and an extensive meat department alongside specialty, national-brand, and private-label grocery items. The new location carries Meijer's two flagship store brands — Frederik's by Meijer, the retailer's premium line built around innovative flavor profiles, and True Goodness, a line of consciously crafted products free from more than 100 ingredients. Both labels give the grocer differentiated shelf presence in an increasingly competitive private-label grocery landscape.
Executive Chairman Hank Meijer framed the opening around affordability: "We understand that value is more important now than ever before, and we will continue working to ensure Meijer customers are getting the best prices on quality items in one easy stop."
Omnichannel and Accessibility Features
Beyond the physical footprint, the Plymouth Township store integrates the full suite of Meijer's digital and fulfillment services. Shoppers can use the mPerks loyalty program to earn rewards redeemable for in-store coupons or fuel discounts at Meijer Express stations. Home Delivery and Pickup options extend the store's reach, while the Shop & Scan feature lets customers scan and bag items as they move through aisles — a format increasingly common across omnichannel grocery and foodservice retail.
The retailer also continued its accessibility push, installing larger, height-adjustable changing tables in family restrooms and maintaining free access to Aira, an app-based navigation service for blind and low-vision shoppers.
Community Investment
Meijer made $30,000 in opening-week donations split equally among three local organizations: First Step, which supports survivors of violence in Wayne County; Miracle League of Plymouth, which provides baseball programs for individuals with special needs; and Plymouth-Canton Educational Foundation. The store's first Simply Give food pantry partner is Trinity Church Food Pantry, which will benefit from the retailer's holiday campaign running through December 26. Since 2008, Meijer's Simply Give program has generated more than $100 million for food pantry partners across the Midwest — a figure that underscores the scale of the chain's community-giving infrastructure.
President & CEO Rick Keyes described the Plymouth Township team as already focused on becoming "an irreplaceable community partner," a positioning consistent with the family-owned retailer's long-standing local-engagement strategy across its more than 500 Midwest locations.
