The Promotion
Mrs. T's Pierogies is marking National Pierogy Day — observed each October 8 — with a social-media sweepstakes that puts its signature freezer product squarely in the Halloween conversation. The brand is giving away 100 sets of limited-edition Pierogy and Sour Cream couples costumes, each prize bundle paired with coupons redeemable for Mrs. T's product at major retailers. The sweepstakes runs through October 13 on the brand's Instagram and Facebook channels, with entry requiring participants to tag a friend they'd wear the costume with.
"Pierogies and sour cream have long been a go-to pairing at mealtime," said Olivia Zawatski, Marketing Communications Manager at Mrs. T's Pierogies. "These limited-edition costumes put a playful spin on a pairing our fans already love, giving them a fun new way to celebrate National Pierogy Day with us this October."
Frozen Foods Meets Seasonal Marketing
For grocery retailers and foodservice buyers, the campaign represents a familiar but effective play: using a food-holiday moment to drive both digital engagement and in-store trial through coupon distribution. The strategy aligns with broader frozen food category trends in which brands leverage culturally relevant seasonal hooks — here, Halloween — to extend purchase occasions beyond habitual meal planning. With 100 winners each receiving retail coupons alongside the costume prize, the promotion is structured to move units at shelf even after the social buzz fades.
Mrs. T's is the largest producer of frozen pierogies in the United States, producing 600 million units per year. The brand positions its product as a budget-friendly, quick-prep option suited to high-traffic meal occasions: weeknight dinners, last-minute sides for gatherings, and snack moments — all of which spike during the fall entertaining season.
The Holiday's Origins
National Pierogy Day became official in 2008, commemorating the date in 1952 when founder Ted Twardzik Sr. made his first pierogy sale to a local grocery store in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania — a transaction that launched a brand now more than 70 years old. The holiday's retail and food-service resonance has grown alongside broader consumer interest in ethnic and heritage foods, a category that grocery and restaurant operators alike have increasingly prioritized to meet demand for comfort-food variety.
The sweepstakes is open to U.S. residents 18 and older and runs from October 1 through October 13, 2026. Full rules are available at mrstspierogies.com/npd.
